    Both the plants are root vegetables and look alike. But there are differences between the two some of which are :

    Beets

    Are dark in colour.
    They contain more sugar content
    Need to be cooked to bring the sweetness out hidden in them.

    Turnips

    Typically white in colour.
    Contain less sugar content compared to its counter part.
    Flavor is something similar to cabbage

    How is Carrot and Beet Combination Beneficial

    Both are natural superfoods.Carrots are exceedingly rich in vitamin A, fights night blindness. Vitamin K helps in building stronger bones. Combination of beets and carrots complement each other. 

    When one adds them to their menu in any form be it juice, vegetables or salad they are not only taking series of vitamins and minerals but also are making their immune system strong to fight any unknown disease. 

    How To Prepare

    Ingredients (Serve - 2 pax)

    Main-Ingredients

    2 beetroots washed, peeled and grated

    2 large onions sliced

    For tempering/tadka

    1/2 tsp jeera/ cumin
    1/2 tsp mustard seeds
    Pinch of hing asafoetida
    1 tsp grated ginger
    1 tbsp chana dal
    2 tbsp ground nuts
    10-15 kadi patta
    1/2 tsp salt
    2 tbsp oil

    Step By Step (photo wise)

    Step 1

    Heat-oil

    Prepare kadai and heat oil.

    Step 2

    Add-tadka-ingredients

    Add tadka ingredients. Make sure flame is medium as high flame may burn the tadka. Stir and cook for 1.5 mins/ 90 seconds.

    Step 3

    Add-onions

    Add onions and stir fry for 2 mins.

    Step 4

    Add-beetroot-and-cook

    Add beetroot and stir for a minute and cook covered for 5 minutes stirring in between.

    Step 5

    Uncover-the-lid

    Uncover the lid.

    Step 6

    Serve hot.You may garnish it with green and red chillies according to one's taste.

    Preparation

    1) Heat oil in a kadai.

    2) Lower the flame to medium. Add all tempering ingredients.

    3) Stir and cook for 1.5 mins/ 90 seconds.
    4) Add onions and stir fry for 2 mins.
    5) Add red beets and stir for a minute. Now cover the lid and cook for 5 mins stirring once or twice in between.
    6) Open the lid put off the flame and serve hot.
    7) You can add green and red chilli according to taste. I have not used any chillies, since I don't relish too many spices, but they taste very good with it.
